How did WW1 impact the Roles of Government?
The major issue the occurred to the Role of Government due to World War 1 was prohibition. The Government thought that prohibition would help end the war quicker, so that is why they proceeded with it. Prohibition did not help end the war quicker, instead it made many other problems arise. Almost all of the people living in this time did not respect this law because they believed it was pointless and unjust. This caused the people to break it and bootleggers started to sell liquor and other alcohols illegally. Bootleggers would also smuggle liquor into other provinces and from 1920 to 1933 they went across the border to the USA and sold it there also. By doing this the bootleggers got very rich while police tried to enforce the law. Prohibition also lead to other problems like drugs. After prohibition started some people would turn to drugs in order to replace alcohol. This has caused many to overdoes and drugs and die. One impact war had on us that we still deal with today is income tax. Back in World War 1, Canadian debt came from war loans that were used to finance the war. Those war loans resulted in us paying income tax today.
